Nova Mobile Systems and Charleston County celebrated the completion of their Port Security Grant project on July 26, 2012. The celebration was held at the South Carolina Research Authority to conclude a project that started in March of 2011 when Charleston County was awarded the Port Security Grant by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The Grant provides funding to protect critical infrastructure from terrorism and other security breaches in and around its port areas. After a rigorous process of researching, pricing and bidding, Nova Mobile Systems was awarded the opportunity to manage and coordinate the procurement and field installation of approximately 230 rugged mobile computing systems installed emergency response units including law enforcement, fire service and EMS vehicles and marine vessels throughout the Charleston, SC area. The event was attended by staff, management and administrators of over 11 public safety agencies. Jim Lake, (Director of the Charleston County Consolidated 9-1-1 Center), Terry Boatwright (Analyst for the Charleston County Consolidated 9-1-1 Center) and JR Mendoza (CTO of Nova Mobile Systems) spoke to attendees about the project and the future of the agencies. Mr. Lake congratulated and thanked the agencies for their participation and reminded everyone of the impact this will have on the public safety of Charleston County. Public Safety agencies will have better access to information which will impact the level of communication and safety of both the citizens and emergency responders on a scene. This project puts Charleston County at the forefront of technology and they have become an example of what public safety will look like around the country.
