POSITION SUMMARY

Provide translation into English from the target language, and render from English into the target language, the speech, and/or writings of non-English speaking individuals.? These translations may be provided to the requestor in either verbatim, summary or transcription form, depending on the assignment.? This material may concern military, scientific, information technology, social and/or legal matters/events, and include terminology and basic institutional knowledge relating to investigative fields such as narcotics, organized crime and terrorism and frequently involves technical or non-standard terms in describing ideas, objects, persons, and places relating to economics, politics and science including highly technical subject matter.? The material may be composed of written or electronic text, and/or voice recordings.? The Linguist will not be able to question the speaker(s)/writer(s) as to the meaning, terminology, or significance of inflection.?

?Essential Functions Statement(s) including but not limited to

• Write and speak clearly and coherently in the Target Language and English.
• Translate or interpret conversations; maintain the integrity and meaning of the material.
• Translate general and technical material to and from the Target Language and English.
• Possess a thorough understanding of IC Transliteration guidelines and directives.
• Quickly scan and accurately translate a large amount of material.
• Write reports, such as a gist, summary, transcript or full translation in the time allotted.
• Read a variety of unfamiliar subjects, relate ideas and make inferences, and rarely misunderstand the intent of the writer.

EDUCATION, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• High School graduate or above.
• High level of proficiency with spreadsheets and the complete MS Office Suite Software.
• The ability to effectively communicate in English, written and spoken word.
• Converse professionally in formal and informal situations, resolve problems, work with unfamiliar topics, provide explanations, offer supported opinions and hypothesize.

?OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• May require U.S. Government security clearance (level TBD) if applicable.
• Independent resource may test interpretation and translation skill level for desired language.

?WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Generally indoors may be subject to changes in temperature and noise levels.
