Terrence Malick Fires Back at Financier's Lawsuit Allegations

Terrence Malick?s Sycamore Pictures LLC fired back back at a London-based film financing firm?s lawsuit, calling the allegations that the director diverted funds for a documentary project to others at the company? ?without merit? and weak.

Seven Seas Limited Partnership sued Sycamore on Friday in U.S. District Court in New York, seeking $3.3 million they say they invested in a project called ?Voyage of Time? but that Malick failed to complete. According to the suit, the project was to include two IMAX films and a feature length movie.

?The claims of Seven Seas are without merit,? said Maura Wogan, attorney at Frankfurt Kurnit Klein Selz, who is representing Sycamore, said in a statement on Monday. ?The film was on budget, on schedule, and all funds were used appropriately. Additionally, Seven Seas? decision to file this lawsuit under the cover of darkness and go public with accusations before presenting Sycamore with a copy of the suit itself speaks to the weakness of the allegations.?

The suit was filed on Friday, and Seven Seas put out a press release over the weekend announcing that it had filed suit. They claim that Malick had little to show for the project, after they invested nearly $6 million over the last six years.
