The iPad Mini was Apple's first mid-range tablet and is essentially a more compact version of the iPad 2. One of the biggest complaints users have about the device is that the resolution isn't high enough to compete with other tablet devices. Apple seems to be in agreement, as the latest rumours claim it is currently developing an iPad Mini with a Retina screen. The Taiwanese 'Economic Daily News' reports that Apple is having trouble with the production of 7.9-inch Retina panels though, resulting in insufficient yields. As such, a Q3 launch seems to be out of the question, and even a release in the fourth quarter of this year is quite uncertain.
Aside from the iPad Mini with Retina resolution, Apple is said to be working on a new version of the current iPad Mini with a 1024 x 768 resolution as well. This new model will serve as an entry-level device and is expected to be released later this year.
